Why the Leaders Who Go Deeper Get Different Results (4-minute read)
The Work Required Before Strategy Takes Hold.

When Awareness Becomes a Decision
Last week, we explored how leadership patterns don’t disappear simply because leaders are capable, committed, or well-intentioned.
They persist because what remains unexamined continues to lead.
That’s not a flaw in leadership; it’s human behavior.
Much of what drives us operates beneath conscious awareness. And until leaders become aware of those patterns, they repeat them, especially under pressure.
This week, the work deepens.
Because awareness alone doesn’t create change.
Choosing to work with what you see does.
Why Some Leaders Grow, and Others Plateau
At this point in the year, most leaders are clear on what they want: better performance, healthier culture, stronger accountability, less friction.
What separates leaders who experience real movement from those who stay stuck isn’t effort or ambition.
It’s willingness.
Willingness to:
Notice how identity shapes decisions,
Examine reactions instead of defending them,
Interrupt familiar patterns rather than rationalize them,
Practice leadership intentionally, not instinctively
This is why leadership development fails when it stays informational.
Insight without integration becomes intellectual.
Awareness without practice becomes frustrating.
And culture doesn’t shift.
What’s Now Opening
Over the past several weeks, many of you have reached out asking what’s coming next and whether there will be an opportunity to engage more deeply with this work.
This week, that door opens.
I’m launching a waiting list for an upcoming online leadership experience designed for leaders who are ready to work beneath performance, to strengthen self-awareness, accountability, and cultural influence in a practical, applied way.
This experience is intentionally:
Small by design
Relational, not transactional
Focused on behavior, not just insight
Built for leaders who want sustained change, not one-time inspiration
The waiting list is not an enrollment.
It’s simply the first step for leaders who want to be informed before this is shared publicly.

A New Conversation Is Also Beginning
As we continue this work, I’m excited to share that a new expression of Authentic Encounters is launching soon.
🎙️ Authentic Encounters: Lena Speaks premieres Tuesday, February 3.
This podcast is a space for deeper conversations around:
Self-awareness
Leadership identity
Professional, community, and faith-based impact
The tools leaders use, and multiply in others

Our first guest is Kisha Wynter, CEO of Wynter Rich Enterprises, a leadership consultant, executive coach, best-selling author, and speaker.
Kisha brings a powerful perspective on, “Why Identity Shapes Every Leadership Decision”?, how leaders see themselves, how they show up under pressure, and how that internal narrative impacts culture, trust, and results.
This conversation sets the tone for what this podcast and this session will explore.
You’ll be able to watch and listen:
On YouTube at Authentic Encounters LLC
And wherever you get your podcasts, starting February 3
A Final Reflection
Leadership doesn’t change when leaders try harder.
It changes when leaders become more aware
and then choose to lead differently on purpose.
If you sense this is your season to go deeper, to interrupt old patterns, and to
lead with greater clarity and intention, I invite you to stay close.
The work ahead is meaningful.
